"Still, the era of electrification is coming."
Despite the trials of the chasm, the era of electric vehicles is rapidly opening. The BMW Group has sold 3 million electrified models so far, and more than 25% of total sales in the first half of this year are said to be electrified models.
The BMW Group announced on the 3rd that the cumulative sales of electrified models, including plug-in hybrid models (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV), have surpassed 3 million units.
On August 27th, the BMW Group delivered the BMW 3 Series plug-in hybrid model to customers at its factory in Munich, Germany, achieving 3 million sales of electrified models. This is a significant achievement, showing that more than 1.5 million of these are battery electric vehicles, proving that electrified vehicles are one of the core products of the BMW Group.
The sales of electrified models by the BMW Group have shown continuous growth. Especially in the first half of this year, more than 25% of total sales have been electrified models, marking a significant upward trend.
The market with the highest proportion of electrified models worldwide is Europe. More than 60% of the BMW Group's electrified models were sold in Europe. Furthermore, more than 40% of the BMW Group's European sales are electrified models, indicating a high preference for electrified models in Europe. This year, demand for plug-in hybrid vehicles has surged, resulting in a significant increase in sales of electrified models compared to the previous year.
In Korea, the growth of the BMW Group's electrified models is also evident. From January to July 2025, BMW's sales of electrified models totaled 6,846 units, marking an 18.3% increase from the same period last year. During the same period this year, MINI sold a total of 825 electrified models, consisting exclusively of battery electric vehicles. One in five MINI vehicles sold in Korea this year is a battery electric vehicle, demonstrating the successful establishment of a newly completed electric vehicle lineup in the domestic market.
The foundation of these achievements is the efforts of the BMW Group to continue evolving while maintaining its brand's unique value in the transition to an electrified era. The BMW Group has expanded its electric vehicle lineup to provide customers with a broader range of choices and has enhanced convenience and satisfaction through customer-centric charging infrastructure development and vehicle management system innovations. Through this, the BMW Group is setting a new standard for the electric vehicle experience, turning its vision for sustainable future mobility into reality.
Jochen Goller, BMW Group vice president of brand and sales, noted, "In the first half of 2025, more than one in four vehicles sold by the BMW Group will be electrified models," adding, "The delivery of 3 million BMW electrified vehicles demonstrates that electrified models are a core element of the BMW Group's product portfolio."
BMW Group Korea is continuously expanding its charging infrastructure to strengthen its leadership in the premium electric vehicle market. Following the announcement of its mid- to long-term charging infrastructure expansion plan, titled "Charging Next," in 2023, it has completed the installation of a total of 2,500 electric vehicle chargers nationwide and plans to build charging infrastructure totaling 3,000 units by the end of the year.
