The Hyundai Motor hydrogen electric vehicle (FCEV) 'The All-New Nexo' is gaining popularity shortly after its launch.
According to Hyundai Motor on the 31st, the new Nexo recorded 6,767 contracted units in the three months since its launch in June. This is more than four times the number of contracts (1,500 units) recorded by the first-generation model launched in March 2018 during the same period.
The number of contracts for the new Nexo started at 1,311 units in its first month, dipped to 631 units last month, but rebounded successfully this month with 4,825 units. The first-generation model had continuous declines in contract numbers from 1,125 units in March 2018, to 205 units in April, and 170 units in May.
The actual sales results are also encouraging. In July, 1,001 new Nexos were sold, marking the first time in 2 years and 8 months that the Nexo sold more than 1,000 units in a month since November 2022 (1,096 units).
As the new model gains popularity, there is growing interest in whether the Nexo can recover annual domestic sales to 10,000 units. The Nexo's annual sales were 727 units in 2018, 4,194 units in 2019, 5,785 units in 2020, 8,502 units in 2021, and 10,164 units in 2022, but in 2023 and last year, they were limited to 4,238 units and 2,751 units, respectively.
The Nexo, which Hyundai Motor introduced as a completely redesigned model for the first time in 7 years, is the only passenger hydrogen electric vehicle in Korea. The maximum driving range on a single charge is 720 km, and the top motor output is 150 kilowatts (kW), with a time to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (0 to 100) of 7.8 seconds.
