Hyundai Motor and Kia announced on the 17th that they held a signing ceremony for an agreement to innovate mobility based on public transportation data, attended by Kim Soo-young, head of mobility business at Hyundai Motor and Kia, and Min Seung-ki, director of the Mobility Traffic Safety Division at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS), at the Hyundai Motor building on Gangnam Boulevard.
Both sides agreed to work together to enhance the sustainability of depopulated areas by utilizing advanced mobility technologies and data, including AI. It is expected that synergy will arise from the vast data acquired through the operational know-how of the Shuckle transportation solution, a demand-responsive traffic solution from Hyundai Motor and Kia, and the public transport experience and management systems of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS), which will be shared.
Based on the shared data, both sides plan to analyze the traffic conditions in the region to develop and demonstrate a public transportation model, aiming to propose policies and systems that can build the local mobility ecosystem, thereby improving the mobility of socially vulnerable groups.
This cooperation leads to the establishment of a future mobility ecosystem from a long-term perspective.
Hyundai Motor Group announced its plan to establish the Next Urban Mobility Alliance (NUMA) at the 'Pleos 25' software vision event in March, aimed at resolving social and environmental issues and realizing sustainable future cities.
The cooperation with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) in the public transportation sector is part of the NUMA establishment, and Hyundai Motor Group plans to continue collaborating with various partners, including public institutions, corporations, startups, universities, and research organizations, to contribute to solving social issues such as supporting the transportation disadvantaged, responding to regional extinction, and addressing the climate crisis.
Kim Soo-young, head of the mobility business at Hyundai Motor and Kia, said, "Through our cooperation with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS), we will lead the development of innovative models in the public transportation sector and the advancement of future mobility technologies," adding that "we plan to accelerate continuous data linkage and joint research to solve regional traffic issues and build a sustainable mobility framework."
Min Seung-ki, director of the Mobility Traffic Safety Division at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS), stated, "When public and private data are shared and integrated, we will be able to provide more tailored transportation services for the public," and noted, "We will play a leading role in constructing a more sustainable and safe mobility framework together with Hyundai Motor and Kia."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor and Kia are conducting a demonstration project with Walkerhill Hotel and Resort, applying the Shuckle platform to the internal and external shuttle service of the Walkerhill Hotel as part of the NUMA establishment. Through this, they plan to push for specialized projects aimed at improving the mobility of nearby residents and the transportation disadvantaged, based on the collected data and validated technologies.
