Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 18th that it has received an order for six liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from two Oceania shipowners for a total of 2.1 trillion won. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered to the shipowners sequentially by November 2028.
With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries achieved 49% of its annual order target of $9.8 billion (approximately 13.56 trillion won), totaling $4.8 billion. The order achievements include ▲ seven LNG carriers ▲ nine shuttle tankers ▲ two ethane carriers ▲ four crude oil carriers ▲ two container carriers ▲ one floating production facility pre-contract, among others.
In the institutional sector, it has achieved $4.1 billion (24 vessels, 70%) of its order target of $5.8 billion. In the marine sector, preparations are underway for the main contract following the preliminary contract for the floating production facility signed in July for $700 million. The plan is to secure one more floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) production facility by year-end to meet the target.
A representative from Samsung Heavy Industries said, "We are currently negotiating several projects, including LNG carriers and eco-friendly container ships," and noted, "Considering the status of FLNG newbuilding negotiations, achieving the order target this year will not be a problem."
