HD Hyundai announced on the 12th that it attended a corporate meeting hosted by Tô Lâm, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, during his state visit to Korea.
The meeting took place that morning at the Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, and Kim Seong-jun, the CEO of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, representing the shipbuilding intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai, attended.
According to HD Hyundai, CEO Kim explained the benefits of mutual cooperation between Korea and Vietnam and expressed HD Hyundai's commitment to its projects in Vietnam.
In particular, he emphasized the importance of the development of Vietnam's shipbuilding industry, a key partner for the sustainable growth of Korea's domestic shipbuilding industry and the strengthening of the value chain, saying that the Vietnamese government's active support, such as extending the project period, is needed for HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding to operate stably.
CEO Kim stated, "Vietnam is a pillar of the shipbuilding industry, one of HD Hyundai's core businesses, and our best business partner," adding, "We will further strengthen our mutual cooperation through continuous investment in HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding."
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding comprehensive shipbuilding cooperation with Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), the largest state-owned shipping company in Vietnam, to enhance practical cooperation with Vietnam.
The two companies agreed to continue their cooperation in various areas, including ▲ promoting the development of Vietnam's shipbuilding industry ▲ expanding and modernizing the VIMC fleet.
HD Hyundai established HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding in 1996 as a joint venture with a Vietnamese state-owned company. It is the largest shipyard in Southeast Asia, covering an area of about 1 million square meters and equipped with 2 docks, 1.3 kilometers of quays, a bow factory, a painting factory, and is the first overseas establishment of a domestic shipbuilder.
