Hyundai Motor Group, which ranks third in the global market in terms of sales volume, surpassed the German Volkswagen Group to rank second based on revenue this first half of the year.
According to the complete vehicle industry on the 10th, Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai Motor, Kia, Genesis) sold 3,654,522 units in the global market this first half of the year, maintaining its third position. The first place was Toyota Group, which sold 5,159,282 units, and the second place was Volkswagen Group, which recorded 4,363,000 units.
However, the rankings appeared differently in terms of profitability. Toyota Group, which is ranked first globally by sales, maintained its position with a revenue of 2.4616 trillion yen (approximately 231.78 trillion won) and an operating profit of 228.21 billion yen (approximately 21.49 trillion won) this first half of the year. Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group's revenue and operating profit were 150.616 trillion won and 13.086 trillion won, respectively. This exceeded the operating profit of Volkswagen Group, which ranks second in sales with 6.707 million euros (approximately 10.86 trillion won).
This is the first time Hyundai Motor Group's operating profit has surpassed Volkswagen Group on a half-year basis. However, Volkswagen Group's revenue was still greater at 15.836 billion euros (approximately 256.52 trillion won) than that of Hyundai Motor Group.
In terms of operating profit margin, Hyundai Motor Group is also outperforming Volkswagen Group. Hyundai Motor Group recorded an operating profit margin of 8.7%, which is lower than Toyota Group (9.2%) but higher than Volkswagen Group (4.2%).
Industry observers noted that if Hyundai Motor Group responds well to crises such as U.S. tariffs and the electric vehicle demand slump, it could rise to second place in profitability on an annual basis. The Volkswagen Group has shown poor performance in key markets such as China, and U.S. Tesla and China's BYD have also recently seen their growth slow, indicating that Hyundai Motor Group may seize opportunities.
