On the 10th, it has been reported that Nguyen Phu Trong, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who is visiting Korea, will also be attending a state dinner hosted by President Lee Jae-myung along with leaders of economic organizations and business tycoons. General Secretary Trong is the most powerful figure in the Vietnamese power hierarchy and will discuss major economic issues, including nuclear power plants, high-speed rail, and future strategies, during this visit.
According to industry insiders on the 7th, General Secretary Trong will attend the state dinner hosted by President Lee on the 11th, the second day of his visit to Korea.
Attendees include Chey Tae-won, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and SK Group, Ryu Jin, chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, Son Kyung-sik, chairman of the Korea Enterprises Federation, Yoon Jin-sik, chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, Kim Gi-moon, chairman of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises, and Choi Jin-sik, chairman of the Federation of Middle Market Enterprises of Korea (FOMEK), among others from six major economic organizations.
Major groups leading Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, LG, Lotte, POSCO, Hanwha, HD Hyundai, Shinsegae, GS, Doosan, and Hyosung, which have production bases in Vietnam, are also included in the invitation list.
The number of participants in the dinner is reported to total over 50 when combining both countries. Specific attendees are expected to be confirmed on the 9th.
Kang Yu-jeong, the spokesperson for the presidential office, stated during a briefing that "President Lee and General Secretary Trong are scheduled to have an in-depth discussion on political and security issues, trade, investment, national infrastructure such as nuclear power, high-speed rail, and smart cities, and future strategies such as nurturing scientific and technological talent during the summit and state dinner on the 11th."
The visit to Korea by Nguyen Phu Trong, the General Secretary of the Communist Party and the number one in the Vietnamese power hierarchy, comes 11 years after his visit in 2014 during the Park Geun-hye administration. As cooperation plans for various economic issues will be specifically discussed, and with major group executives present, this is expected to create more opportunities for domestic corporations to actively expand into Vietnam in the future.
