As Amazon, the U.S. e-commerce platform, has started the sale of used cars following new cars, Hyundai Motor dealers have begun full-scale transactions. Various vehicles from Hyundai, as well as Kia and Genesis, have been listed for sale.
According to the industry on the 7th, Amazon's car sales site, Amazon Autos, has expanded its service range from new cars to include used cars. Currently, transactions are possible only within Los Angeles in California, but it plans to expand the region within a few months.
Amazon began its online car sales service in January of this year after about a year of preparation with Hyundai's U.S. sales subsidiary. Initially, it was available only in 48 cities, including Los Angeles, but has now increased to 130 cities. The brands have also diversified to include Hyundai, Ford, Toyota, and Jeep.
As of today, dozens of used Hyundai cars are listed on Amazon Autos. There are a variety of cars available, from those that have driven over 100,000 km to newly released electric vehicles and hybrid cars. Similar to new cars, they can be searched by brand, model year, model, trim, and color, and information on recalls and accident histories can also be checked.
The 2024 model of Hyundai's electric car, the Ioniq 6, has a cumulative mileage of about 8,590 miles (approximately 13,800 km) and is priced at about $27,000 (about 38 million won). The 2024 model of the Tucson plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with similar mileage is priced between $27,000 and $30,000 (approximately 38 million to 40 million won).
Many Kia and Genesis vehicles are also available, and the prices of used Hyundai and Kia cars are generally higher than in Korea. The 2023 model Ioniq 6 with a mileage of 21,000 km is listed on Amazon for 41.57 million won, while in Korea, it is in the range of 38 million won (22,000 km driven).
In contrast, Genesis is somewhat cheaper in the U.S. The 2022 model G90, with a mileage of 47,000 km, is listed for 89.9 million won in Korea, but on Amazon, it is available for 61 million won (58,000 km driven). The 2023 model G70 with about 20,000 km driven is listed for 45.9 million won in Korea and 43 million won in the U.S.
Hyundai, which first started selling complete vehicles on Amazon, is steadily increasing its online sales. Hyundai plans to raise its online sales ratio in the U.S. market to about 30% within the next five years, and it intends to continuously expand the services and market available on Amazon Autos.
