The Korea Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF) issued a statement from the nuclear industry on the 1st regarding the conclusion of the U.S.-Korea tariff agreement, saying, "The 511 member companies of the Korea Atomic Industrial Forum welcome the establishment of a $200 billion investment fund that includes the nuclear industry as a strategic industry," and "We deeply appreciate the government's comprehensive trade diplomacy efforts that led to this achievement."
The Korea Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF) particularly noted, "President Trump signed an executive order to expand the nation's nuclear power generation capacity to four times its current level by 2050 and to build about 300 additional nuclear reactors to achieve this," adding, "This investment fund is expected to serve as an important turning point and new opportunity for domestic nuclear corporations to enter the U.S. market."
"The nuclear industry expects that cooperation in the development of next-generation nuclear technology, such as the development and construction of SMR currently actively promoted in the U.S., and coordination for global export expansion will be further strengthened as a result of this agreement," it said, adding, "Through this, we will enhance the competitiveness of the domestic nuclear industry and solidify our position in the global market."
Chairman Hwang said, "We view the conclusion of the U.S.-Korea tariff agreement and the establishment of an investment fund that includes the nuclear industry as a strategic industry very positively," emphasizing, "In the future, the nuclear industry will not only focus on ensuring safety and pursuing technological innovation to contribute to achieving the government's carbon neutrality goals and stable power supply for national economic development, but will also do its utmost to expand nuclear exports to overseas markets, including the U.S."
Founded in 1972, the Korea Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF) is the largest nuclear association in Korea, consisting of 511 nuclear corporations and research institutes as of the end of July 2025.
