KG Mobility (hereinafter referred to as KGM) and the Intelligent Vehicle Parts Promotion Agency (hereinafter referred to as the Agency) have agreed to cooperate on the development of autonomous driving technology.
The two sides held a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony at the Agency's headquarters (Dalseong-gun, Daegu) on the 28th and promised to join forces in developing autonomous driving technology. KGM was represented by Kwon Yong-il, the head of the Technology Research Institute, and the Agency was represented by Seo Jae-hyung, the director.
The Agency, established in 2014 as a testing specialized institution to support related companies and research institutions developing next-generation automotive technologies such as autonomous vehicles, has various facilities and testing personnel, including equipment for vehicle driving tests and impact durability tests under diverse conditions, such as high-speed circuits and universal test tracks.
KGM expects that through this collaboration, it will be able to respond to relevant European regulations on autonomous driving, secure mass production technology for autonomous vehicles, and improve efficiency in technology development. KGM anticipates that joint research and securing mass production technology related to the evaluation system items for the popularization of Level 3 autonomous vehicles, including enhanced driver monitoring and misuse prevention, and real road testing, which will be strengthened under the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) after 2026, will also be possible.
The two companies also agreed to actively cooperate regarding testing equipment, personnel, and resources related to vehicle performance testing and evaluation.
A KGM official noted, "Through technological cooperation with the Agency, we expect to enhance not only our ability to respond to European regulations related to autonomous driving but also to secure mass production technology and improve development efficiency." He added, "We will continue to secure future growth engines by completing a full lineup of eco-friendly vehicles, including advanced autonomous driving technologies and high-performance hybrid SUVs."
