KG Mobility released a hybrid version of the gasoline mid-sized sports utility vehicle (SUV) 'Actyon', which it launched in August last year. It was released as a single trim with basic safety and convenience specifications, priced at 36.95 million won, which is about 2.7 million won more than the gasoline model. Typically, hybrid models are over 3 million won more expensive than gasoline models.
I drove the Actyon Hybrid for about 180 km. It is cheaper than its competitors, the Renault Korea Grand Koleos (37.61 million won) and the Kia Sorento (38.67 million won), but overall, the performance and specifications were satisfactory.
The exterior is clean. KG Mobility describes this vehicle as having 'a coexistence of gentleness and toughness.' The dynamics are highlighted by the LED daytime running lights derived from the Korean flag and the 20-inch diamond-cut wheels with diagonal patterns. With a length of 4,740 mm, a width of 1,910 mm, and a height of 1,680 mm, the body isn't high but feels substantial due to its length.
When sitting in the driver's seat and turning on the ignition, the power comes on quietly and without shaking. KG Mobility applied the next-generation hybrid system, 'Dual Tech Hybrid System.' Thanks to the dual motors that perform electric driving and battery charging simultaneously, the concept of 'an electric vehicle that does not charge' has been established for the Actyon Hybrid. It is equipped with a battery with the largest capacity among domestic hybrid vehicles at 1.83 kWh.
In urban sections with a driving distance of about 20 km, it can run up to 94% in electric driving mode. In actual driving, I found that most of the time spent in downtown Seoul was powered by the electric motor alone. The combined fuel efficiency and urban fuel efficiency are 15.0 km per liter (L) and 15.6 km per L, respectively, based on the 20-inch wheels. Despite running the air conditioner strongly and facing heavy congestion in the city, the actual fuel efficiency during the test drive was 14.3 km per L.
On the highway, I was able to smoothly increase speed. However, it lacked explosive power. While there was no sense of the body shaking at speeds over 100 km/h, the sound of the outside wind was somewhat loud. Thanks to the upgraded shock absorbers, there was no significant discomfort on roads with many speed bumps.
Driving convenience features were also satisfactory. It has a central lane-keeping assist system, and the semi-autonomous driving assist system 'Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC)' allows for self-driving within the set maximum speed, reducing fatigue.
The central control panel, or center fascia, between the driver and passenger seat was intuitive. The display tilted 8 degrees toward the driver and had a light touch feel, making it convenient to operate while driving. However, the navigation system seems to need improvement. There were instances where it suggested routes that arrived about 20 minutes later than the Naver navigation. The estimated arrival time on the vehicle's navigation system also differed by more than 10 minutes from the actual arrival time.
The test vehicle was equipped with a 400,000 won optional camel-beige two-tone quilting interior package, which felt luxurious due to the material that gives a texture between fabric and leather. The knee space in the second row is 939 mm, not extremely wide but not uncomfortable either. The trunk capacity is 652 L. When a standard golf bag is loaded diagonally, more than four can fit comfortably. Folding the second-row seats increases the capacity to 1,424 L.
