The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced its direction for AI strategy on the 20th, including the establishment of an AI committee. This aims to improve the export support system using AI and to support the globalization of the domestic AI ecosystem.
KOTRA will introduce an AI export secretary to improve the export support system using AI and will promote the expansion of AI-based digital trade support projects and infrastructure. The AI export secretary will serve as an interactive integrated service channel utilizing generative AI to solve corporations' unstructured questions and requests.
KOTRA will promote strengthening support for the overseas expansion of domestic AI corporations and initiatives like global AI innovation projects. To enhance industrial competitiveness, KOTRA plans to investigate and disseminate global AI trends, and to attract investment and talent from overseas AI companies. Notably, KOTRA established an overseas talent acquisition center this year, which will expand to include the AI industry and aim to discover talent from the U.S. and India.
Additionally, KOTRA will expand the use of AI. KOTRA plans to enhance productivity using AI solutions and promote education to strengthen AI literacy. Through this, KOTRA aims to increase AI utilization capabilities within the organization and to establish an AI organizational culture.
The AI committee established by KOTRA will serve as a control tower overseeing all AI-related projects and infrastructure within KOTRA. In particular, the AI committee, chaired by President Kang Kyung-seong, has appointed external members, Professor Jang Byung-tak from Seoul National University and Professor Yoon Jong-young from National University of Korea, as AI experts.
President Kang noted, "The AI great transformation will create more opportunities," and said, "I will expedite the era of $1 trillion in exports and the leap to become one of the top three countries in AI."
