Hankook & Company Group (Chairman Cho Hyun-bum)'s subsidiary, the global innovation hardware platform corporation Model Solution (CEO Woo Byeong-il), has officially embarked on the national project called 'Development of ultra-personalized personal mobility service design.'
The Korea Planning & Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) oversees the detailed project with a total budget of 6 billion won for the 'Design Innovation Capability Enhancement Project.' Model Solution will participate in task 8 among the 13 detailed tasks, receiving about 1.7 billion won in research and development expenses over 33 months.
Model Solution will develop customized mobility services that comprehensively reflect personal driving purposes, user behavior characteristics, and indoor and outdoor environments. To achieve this, they have set key development items such as environmental and usage scenario-based design, user-customized content composition, and new form factor designs considering lightweight, accessibility, and maneuverability.
The project will be jointly conducted by the design corporation BKID and Hanyang University's industry-academic cooperation group (Professor Kang Chang-mook's team). Model Solution plans to lead hardware development based on its integrated manufacturing solutions and mobility engineering capabilities and enhance technical completeness through cooperation.
Publicly linked design initiatives will also be promoted to respond to social changes such as aging and increased demand for personal mobility. Aiming to ensure mobility rights for the transport disadvantaged and establish sustainable mobility means in urban areas, they are reviewing plans for integration with public infrastructure such as public transportation and medical institutions. In terms of user experience (UX) design, they will advance designs focused on ease of operation, intuitive information recognition, and driving stability.
The development results will undergo field testing in welfare institutions, medical institutions, etc., to verify their effectiveness, and strategies for domestic and international diffusion utilizing existing partner networks will also be pursued.
They are also concurrently developing smart actuator technology applicable to personal mobility drive systems. This technology is designed using an axial flux permanent magnet motor (AFPM) and is exploring technological expandability to be utilized in various fields, including robotics.
CEO Woo Byeong-il of Model Solution noted, 'This project focuses on implementing mobility solutions tailored to the individual characteristics and needs of users at the design level,' and added, 'Based on Model Solution's integrated capabilities in product planning, design, and manufacturing, we will present a next-generation personal mobility platform that simultaneously possesses inclusivity and technological competitiveness.'
