Last month, the domestic sales of the automotive industry shifted to an upward trend. Exports slightly declined, keeping overall sales at a stable level.
On the 1st, according to the sales figures released for June by Hyundai Motor, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Korea, and KG Mobility, the domestic sales of the five companies last month totaled 117,390 units, marking a 5.0% increase compared to the same period last year. After recording a 2.9% drop last month, this is a rebound after four months of decline.
By company, the sales figures were ▲Hyundai Motor 62,064 units ▲Kia 46,003 units ▲Renault Korea 5,013 units ▲KG Mobility 3,031 units ▲GM Korea 1,279 units. In terms of year-over-year percentage change, Renault Korea saw the largest increase at 145.6%, while Hyundai Motor and Kia increased by 3.8% and 4.5%, respectively. KG Mobility and GM Korea saw decreases of 26.1% and 32.7%, respectively.
In terms of models, the best-selling car was Kia's Sorento, which sold 7,923 units in June alone. The Hyundai Avante followed with 7,485 units, while the Kia Carnival and Sportage recorded 6,714 units and 6,363 units, respectively. The Hyundai Grandeur (5,579 units), Palisade (5,471 units), Santa Fe (5,443 units), and Kia Seltos (5,100 units) also exceeded 5,000 units. Among the models from small to medium-sized automakers, Renault Korea's Grande Koleos sold 4,098 units. Launched last September, it has seen a 24% increase from the previous month, continuing its popularity.
The exports of the five companies totaled 573,465 units, reflecting a 0.7% decrease compared to the same month last year. Hyundai Motor and Kia exported 296,827 units and 293,654 units, respectively, with Hyundai Motor increasing by 1% and Kia decreasing by 0.8%. GM Korea recorded a 6.5% decline with 43,886 units, Renault Korea saw a 48.9% drop with 3,555 units, and KG Mobility reported an 18% increase with 6,200 units.
The total sales volume of the five companies, combining domestic and export sales, was 691,507 units, which is a 0.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
