Audi unveiled the mid-size sedan "the new Audi A5" and the mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) "the new Audi Q5" on the 1st, announcing that sales would begin that day.
The new Audi A5 is the first Audi diesel model to apply the internal combustion engine exclusive Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform and high-efficiency mild hybrid (MHEV) plus technology. Audi noted that this technology minimizes the unique vibrations and noise of diesel engines. The combined fuel efficiency for urban and highway driving is 9.2 to 14.5 kilometers per liter (km/L).
All trims are equipped with the all-wheel drive system "Quattro" and a 7-speed automatic S Tronic transmission (dual-clutch transmission). The new model has increased dimensions compared to its predecessor, with the length extending by 65 mm, width by 15 mm, and height by 25 mm, providing the largest interior space in its class.
Noh Tae-hoon, Audi's product planning manager, said, "For the first time, a panoramic roof with adjustable transparency has been installed." A characteristic of this A5 is that when the trunk is opened, the entire rear glass rises, following the coupe-style Sportback model.
The new Audi Q5 also features the PPC platform and high-efficiency MHEV plus technology. Audi explained that the electronic all-wheel drive system "Ultra Quattro" and the 7-speed automatic S Tronic transmission enhance driving stability. As a hybrid, it adds a power output of 18 kilowatts (kW). The combined fuel efficiency is about 12.7 km/L.
Steve Kloety, head of Audi Korea, mentioned, "The Q5 is the most successful model in Audi's SUV lineup," adding, "The new Q5 is designed to fit well for everything from city driving to weekend trips." The length and width of the vehicle have each increased by 35 mm and 5 mm compared to the previous model.
Audi Korea expressed its determination to regain the Korean market, stating that it maximally reflected the demands of Korean consumers. According to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA), Audi Korea's sales last year stood at 9,304 units, down 47.9% from a year earlier, ranking 6th among all imported cars.
Audi Korea plans to launch a total of 16 new cars this year, the largest number since entering the Korean market. The flagship models are the A5 and Q5 unveiled that day. The new Audi A5 and the new Audi Q5 are available in 7 and 3 trims, respectively. Prices for the A5 range from 57.89 million won to 83.42 million won, while the Q5 ranges from 69.68 million won to 79.50 million won.
