Renault Korea is enhancing vehicle safety as well as fire response technology for electric vehicles based on its brand core value of "Human First."
Renault Korea announced that the midsize sport utility vehicle (SUV) Grand Koleos recorded the highest score among the evaluated vehicle types in the recently conducted 2024 Korea New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP) and received a grade 1 rating.
Among the 10 vehicle types evaluated this time, the Grand Koleos scored a total of 86.9 points, ranking first among all SUV models and domestic completed vehicle manufacturers.
The Grand Koleos received the highest rating in all categories, including crash safety, pedestrian protection, and accident prevention features. In particular, thanks to its sophisticated body structure design, the potential for injury to passengers in a side collision was assessed as zero.
The company explained that this is a result of designing the body with advanced materials such as ultra-high-strength giga steel and hot-pressed steel plates, and equipping all trims with more than 30 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) as standard, including lane-keeping assistance and intelligent speed limit systems.
Amid concerns over electric vehicle fires, Renault Korea developed a unique firefighting technology called "Fireman Access" and has made it available free of charge to completed vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
This technology features a pathway that allows a fire hose to spray water directly into the vehicle's lower battery case, shortening the time to fire entry to about 10 minutes and reducing water usage by more than 90%.
A Renault Korea official noted, "Cars are not just a means of transportation but a space where families and daily lives coexist, and sometimes a shield that must protect lives," adding, "Under the philosophy of Human First, we prioritize safety across all models."
