Korea Zinc announced on the 25th that its silver products have received 100% eco-friendly global certification, following its copper products.
Korea Zinc received certification from the global certification agency SGC, confirming that the silver products produced at its Onsan smelter are made from 100% recycled materials. Last year, the copper products received the same certification.
Korea Zinc's silver products are made by recovering silver from byproducts left after the smelting of zinc and lead ores. Silver concentrated at high purity is obtained from Roaster Dust generated in the zinc smelting process and from the metal residues (Anode slime) that precipitate in the lead process.
A representative from Korea Zinc noted, "This is the result of our ongoing technological development efforts to recover precious metals such as copper and silver, considering the potential for utilizing smelting byproducts and waste." They added, "We will continue to establish ourselves as an eco-friendly energy and materials corporation through continuous innovation."
Last year, the silver produced by Korea Zinc amounted to 2,010 tons (t), generating approximately 2.384 trillion won in revenue. This accounted for 29.5% of the total revenue, making it the second largest contributor after zinc (31.7%).
