Heo Nam-gak (photo), chairman of Samyang Tongsang, passed away on the 4th. He was 87 years old. He is reported to have died in his home early that morning. Chairman Heo is the eldest son of the late Heo Jeong-gu, honorary chairman of Samyang Tongsang. Born in 1938, he graduated from Boseong High School and majored in economics at Seoul National University. In 1962, he obtained a master's degree in economics from the University of Chicago.
In 1963, he served as the head of the Samyang Tongsang Chicago branch, became the CEO of Samhwa Leather Industry in 1973, and became the CEO of Samyang Tongsang in 1976. He served as chairman of Nike Korea in 1986 and took over as chairman of Samyang Tongsang in 1990. Samyang Tongsang is a corporation that manufactures and exports leather. The company is recognized for leading the industry by introducing state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Currently, the company is led by Heo Jun-hong, the eldest son of Chairman Heo.
The funeral home is at Yonsei University Sinchon Funeral Hall Special Room 1 (02-2227-7550), with the funeral scheduled for 8 a.m. on the 7th. Condolences can be paid starting from noon on the 4th.
