The total aggregates of products purchased by public institutions from small and medium-sized enterprises exceeded 130 trillion won last year, marking the highest record ever.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups noted at the Cabinet meeting on the 29th that the purchase amount of small and medium-sized enterprise products by public institutions in 2024 will reach 131 trillion won. This is the largest purchase amount since the implementation of the public procurement system in 2006.
Public institutions must purchase more than 50% of the total purchase amount from small and medium-sized enterprise products according to the law on promotion of small and medium-sized enterprise product purchases and support for sales channels.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is selecting institutions as 'grand award' recipients that have a purchase ratio of small and medium-sized enterprise products of over 85% and a purchase amount of at least 300 billion won among the institutions subject to public procurement surveys and encouraging their efforts.
In 2024, 20 institutions were selected, including the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation, Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province, and the Ministry of Education. The Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation achieved a purchase ratio of 94.7% (4.693 trillion won) of small and medium-sized enterprise products out of a total purchase amount of 4.953 trillion won.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to make policy efforts to ensure that public procurement systems such as public procurement briefing sessions and purchase promotion networking events can serve as a cornerstone for small and medium-sized enterprises to secure public sales channels.
