Hanwha Aerospace is taking steps to train local personnel to operate its production facility in Romania. Last year, Hanwha Aerospace signed a $1.4 trillion supply contract with Romania, which included K9 self-propelled howitzers. Hanwha Aerospace plans to start production locally in Romania in 2027.
Hanwha Aerospace's Romanian branch announced on the 17th that it has signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Pusan National University and Bucharest University of Technology in Romania. Ambassador to Romania Im Gap-soo, Hanwha Aerospace Romania head Bae Jin-kyu, and Bucharest University of Technology President Mihnea Costoiu attended the MOU signing ceremony held the previous day at Bucharest University of Technology. Pusan National University Vice President of Education Lee Jae-woo and International Office Director Lee Chang-hwan participated in the agreement ceremony via video conference.
The company noted that through this agreement, the three institutions plan to cooperate in various areas, including the recruitment of local personnel for the production facility of self-propelled howitzers in Romania, support for industry-academia scholarships, establishment of a research and development center within the university, and the opening of internships and exchange student programs.
Bae Jin-kyu, head of Hanwha Aerospace Romania, said, "Through this industry-academic-research cooperation, Hanwha Aerospace will promote the establishment of a manufacturing facility in Romania, along with the training of local talented personnel and the establishment of R&D centers within universities, thereby playing a role as a catalyst for Romania's economic and industrial development."
