Genesis has already been launched for 10 years. A decade is special for everyone. Genesis has assigned the meaning of "luxury design of a new era" to its "10th anniversary" concept car.
At the "2025 Seoul Mobility Show," which starts receiving visitors from the 4th, Genesis unveiled two concept cars containing a new flagship vision for the first time in the world. The uniqueness of the 10th anniversary has also stimulated a new challenge in entering motorsports. The design of the "GMR-001 hypercar," which will be a precursor to entering motorsports, was also unveiled for the first time in the country.
The two concept cars unveiled by Genesis are the "X Gran Coupe Concept" (hereafter referred to as X Gran Coupe) and the "X Gran Convertible Concept" (hereafter referred to as X Gran Convertible).
At this Seoul Mobility Show, Genesis has announced its aspirations to open a new era and expressed gratitude to domestic customers who have supported the brand for the past 10 years under the theme "Unfold a new era of Genesis."
Song Min-kyu, vice president of Genesis Business Division, noted, "Genesis has shared its unique emotions and values with over 1.3 million customers worldwide over the past 10 years," and added, "We plan to present a variety of models that embody the high-performance technology and future luxury design direction that Genesis pursues, using this Seoul Mobility Show as a new starting point."
The X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible, which Genesis is introducing for the first time in the world, are two-door concept models showcasing the essence of luxury based on the flagship sedan G90. The two models present a new direction for luxury design that responds to a variety of customer preferences and lifestyles, based on the design assets that Genesis has accumulated over the past 10 years.
Yoon Il-heon, head of the Genesis Design Center, explained, "Through the two models presented today, we aimed to showcase a new form of flagship tailored to customers' diverse preferences and lifestyles," adding, "Both the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible, which started from different inspirations, clearly convey Genesis' identity."
The two models embody the design philosophy of Genesis, "Athletic Elegance," featuring a newly interpreted front-end graphic with two lines, a low-slung cabin and roofline, and a smooth silhouette that simultaneously boasts a flagship presence and aesthetic beauty. The front end is equipped with two-line headlamps and a crest grille, inheriting Genesis' unique identity. Inside the grille, a diamond-pattern 3D mesh that resembles woven metal threads completes an exquisite and luxurious impression.
The side profile emphasizes the vehicle's volume with a long hood and widely flared fenders, and the application of long frameless doors and a large Day Light Opening (DLO) that connects like a single glass pane realizes a bold silhouette where the interior and exterior naturally connect. Notably, the convertible model extends the beltline to the rear, separating the soft top roof from the body, and adds a smoothly rising rear character line to emphasize graceful and elegant proportions. The rear features slim taillights and an emblem embedded in the body for a seamless feel, and it adds a spoiler edge on the tailgate while harmoniously connecting the square dual mufflers and the chrome line from the side, well highlighting the sporty character of the vehicle.
The technical details are also subtly included, such as a hidden type rear camera that is concealed within the vehicle surface and pops out when needed, and a gesture recognition method that allows the trunk to be opened and closed with just a hand movement. The exterior of the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible features colors inspired by the Mediterranean nature, tailored to each concept.
The X Gran Coupe applies a deep green inspired by olive trees, while the X Gran Convertible showcases a rich burgundy color inspired by fine Italian wines, enhancing the luxurious atmosphere and elegance unique to the flagship.
Inside, it inherits the luxurious design of the G90 based on the concept of "the beauty of emptiness" while adding delicate details reflecting each model's concept.
By connecting the wing shape, which was divided on either side of the existing G90 cluster, with a single curve, the immersive experience for the driver is enhanced. Additionally, the bottom of the steering wheel features aluminum spokes with precise patterns that increase both visual balance and operability. The first-row seats are integrated with a seat belt structure, rear ventilation, and an integrated rear display, simultaneously satisfying functionality and design completeness. Premium crystal materials are used in various areas such as the paddle shift, ventilation, and center console, creating a dynamic flow of light depending on natural light, while the floor mats feature quilting finish shaped like olive leaves to provide a differentiated riding experience.
The interior of the X Gran Coupe features natural leather in olive green and cognac colors. This leather is characterized by being eco-friendly, produced without harmful chromium components by utilizing wastewater generated from the refinement of olive oil. The dashboard and door trims utilize real olive wood, and the doors are enhanced with a special backlit graphic featuring an olive leaf pattern to create a warm and deep atmosphere. The X Gran Convertible is filled with blue-hued natural leather reminiscent of fine wine grapes, and it boasts luxurious interiors using eucalyptus wood with a unique gloss.
▲Design of the GMR-001 hypercar, a symbol of Genesis' entry into motorsports
Through this Seoul Mobility Show, Genesis unveiled the design of the GMR-001 hypercar for the first time in the country and announced its plans to enter endurance racing. The GMR-001 hypercar is a model that showcases Genesis' endless potential in the motorsports field and the future direction of high-performance luxury through the combination of high-performance technology and aesthetic identity.
Inspired by the Genesis magma program, the GMR-001 hypercar emphasizes agile vehicle performance through its unique black finish and high-quality design.
First, based on Genesis' unique two-line design that extends from the front to the side, the aerodynamic structure and volume are completed, allowing anyone to easily recognize Genesis' differentiated identity from any location and angle. Additionally, the application of the arch-shaped "parabolic line" that transitions naturally from the front to the rear adds strength and stability to the vehicle. The rear is equipped with an active spoiler to secure high-speed driving stability while emphasizing dynamic design.
Along with the unveiling of the GMR-001 hypercar design, Genesis clearly stated its intention to challenge itself as a high-performance brand.
Starting next year, Genesis plans to participate with two vehicles in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and additionally deploy two more vehicles in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSCC) beginning in 2027 to establish its position on the global motorsports stage.
Genesis also revealed plans to actively engage in engine and vehicle development for motorsports under the philosophy of "Hyperspeed." Genesis is collaborating with the world-renowned race car manufacturer Oreca based on its newly designed V8 engine, while also rapidly advancing the development for vehicle performance and durability. To this end, it is conducting joint research and testing with top industry experts, including legendary driver Jacky Ickx, Genesis magma racing driver Andre Lotterer, and Pipo Derani at a dedicated facility near Circuit Paul Ricard in France.
Cyril Abiteboul, head of the Hyundai Motorsports Division and general director of Genesis magma racing, noted, "Endurance racing requires strong resilience and perfect execution, which is closely connected to the values Genesis pursues," adding, "The GMR-001 will be an important starting point from which Genesis can demonstrate its potential and identity as a high-performance brand."
Genesis has set up an exhibition space of 1,200 m2 (approximately 363 pyeong) at the Seoul Mobility Show, which runs until the 13th at KINTEX in Ilsan, featuring the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible concepts, a 1:2 scale model of the GMR-001 hypercar, GV60 magma concept, GV60 partial modification model, GV80 coupe black, GV70 electric partial modification model, and G90, totaling nine vehicles on display.
In addition, various experiential spaces will be set up such as the "Black Zone" displaying exclusive materials and parts applied to the Genesis black lineup, the "Magma Zone" which expresses Genesis magma's design philosophy and motorsport challenge through media art, and the "SON-NIM Lounge" where visitors can experience the hospitality philosophy Genesis pursues with all five senses, allowing customers visiting the exhibition hall to directly experience and feel the vision and values of the Genesis brand.
Moreover, Genesis will collaborate with famous chef Sam Kim to offer special desserts in a private lounge for Genesis owners and will run the "Genesis Gourmet Trip" program, which combines test drives and gourmet experiences. The program will be conducted through a draw, with winners experiencing a test drive of the GV70 electric model and private dining at Chef Sam Kim's restaurant.
