The long-awaited vehicle has finally cast light on the world.
Hyundai Motor unveiled the all-new NEXO, a new hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), at a press conference held on the 3rd at KINTEX in Goyang, South Korea, during the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. The NEXO is a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that was launched in March 2018. It is the first significant model change in 7 years.
However, the design itself is not that unfamiliar. Last October, Hyundai introduced the hydrogen fuel cell concept car 'Inishium', and the 'all-new NEXO' is not significantly different from 'Inishium'.
Hyundai solidified its brand as a leader in hydrogen energy vision while unveiling the all-new NEXO, the new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, for the first time at the Seoul Mobility Show.
The 'all-new NEXO' reflects Hyundai's new design language, 'Art of Steel,' based on 'Inishium,' and has material properties that reveal themselves through a new approach realized in the all-new NEXO.
The all-new NEXO captures a robust image characteristic of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) while featuring a unique design exclusive to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
The front daytime running lights (DRL) and rear combination lamp feature the 'HTWO lamp,' which embodies the symbol of Hyundai Motor Group's hydrogen business brand 'HTWO,' composed of the molecular formula for hydrogen (H2) and the axis of hydrogen (Hydrogen) and humanity (Humanity), harmonizing with the boldly designed bumper and creating a sophisticated impression. The bold lines forming the side silhouette emphasize the solid and robust identity of the all-new NEXO, blending with the arch structure that wraps around the side and rear.
The interior features soft and rich padding patterns to deliver warmth and comfort like a living space, and a driver-centered panoramic curved display and an integrated digital side mirror (DSM) mounted on the crash pad enhance practicality and openness. With inside-outside V2L and a 100W C-type charging port, connectivity with various devices is strengthened, and for the first time in the Hyundai brand, 'audio by Bang & Olufsen premium sound' has been applied.
As a representative of eco-friendly models, the all-new NEXO actively utilizes eco-friendly materials throughout its interior and exterior, including recycled plastic from scrapped cars applied to exterior bumpers and cladding, bio-process leather, bio-polyurethane leather, bio-paint, bio-plastics, recycled PET fabric, and linen fabric.
Additionally, based on an expanded rear overhang of 80mm compared to the previous model, the all-new NEXO has secured a luggage space of 510 liters (based on VDA) capable of holding a maximum of four golf bags, and it has adopted a fastening platform that allows for the customization of luggage space with various accessories.
The all-new NEXO has achieved remarkable advancements in power performance, surpassing unique design and excellent practicality.
Hyundai applied a 2-stage motor system with two inverters to the all-new NEXO, raising efficiency to as high as 90%, achieving a maximum motor output of 150kW. This represents a 1.3% point improvement in system efficiency and a 25% increase in motor output compared to the previous model. During regular driving, one inverter operates, while both inverters will function during high-speed driving, providing optimal motor output according to driving conditions.
Based on such extensive performance improvements, the all-new NEXO achieves acceleration performance from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, and it is expected to be able to travel over 700 km on a short charging time of around 5 minutes. (※ Based on 18-inch tires; the exact one-time charging travel range will be announced later based on measurements from Hyundai's research center.)
Hyundai applied a 'route planner' containing real-time information on hydrogen charging infrastructure across 212 locations nationwide to the all-new NEXO, providing the optimal travel route without charging stress. The vehicle also features specialized information display functions related to hydrogen energy, allowing easy access to information such as real-time hydrogen station information, hydrogen energy flow diagrams, personalized travel ranges based on driving environments, and V2L usage information.
Along with this, it includes class-leading convenience features such as wireless software updates (OTA), dual smartphone wireless charging, Hyundai digital key 2, digital center mirror (DCM), digital side mirror (DSM), built-in cam 2 plus, fingerprint authentication system within the vehicle, remote smart parking assist 2 (RSPA 2), and heated and ventilated seats throughout.
To enhance body rigidity and passenger room protection in the all-new NEXO, Hyundai expanded the areas of hot stamping and ultra-high-strength steel application compared to the previous model, applying a multi-skeleton structure to improve crash safety performance.
Additionally, it is equipped with 9 airbags, Chonbang collision prevention assist 2 (FCA2, vehicle/pedestrian/bicyclist/intersecting oncoming vehicles/front-facing vehicles/cross traffic/overtaken vehicles/side-approaching vehicles), lane departure prevention assist (LKA), lane keeping assist 2 (LFA2), highway driving assist 2 (HDA 2), front/side/rear parking distance warning (PDW-F/S/R), pedal misoperation safety assist (PMSA), surround view monitor (SVM), rear side monitor (RVM), front/side/rear parking collision prevention assist (PCA-F/S/R), remote smart parking assist 2 (RSPA 2), steering wheel grip detection (HOD), and advanced rear passenger alert (ROA) safety features.
A driver status monitoring system (ICC) was also introduced, which uses a camera embedded in the instrument panel to check the driver's condition and facial direction, warning with sounds for whether to pay attention to the front or to take a break.
Jeong Yu-seok, vice president of Hyundai Motor's domestic business division, introduced the all-new NEXO, saying, 'We will move forward with customers to make the future of freely moving in clean air a reality.' He added, 'We ask for your interest and support in the journey to create a sustainable future with Hyundai Motor.'
