GS Group has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving greater growth by rekindling its founding spirit of change and challenge on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.
GS Group announced on the 30th that it held the 'GS 20th Anniversary and GS Art Center Opening Ceremony' on the 28th at the GS Art Center in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul. The GS Art Center is a newly opened cultural and artistic space at the former site of the LG Art Center in Yeoksam-dong.
Chairman Heo Tae-soo, along with other executives including representatives from GS Caltex, GS Energy, GS Retail, and GS Engineering and Construction, attended the event. Honorary Chairman Heo Chang-soo, Honorary Chairman Heo Dong-soo of GS Caltex, and former Vice Chairman Heo Seung-jo of GS Retail were also present.
Chairman Heo Tae-soo said in his welcoming speech, 'GS has nurtured a global oil-exporting company in a country with no oil and built a distribution network that enhances daily convenience. On this 20th anniversary, we will awaken the proud founding spirit of change and challenge to strive for greater growth and advancement in the next 20 years.'
GS Group expanded its areas of business after splitting from LG in 2005, venturing into refining, retail, construction, energy generation, trading, hotels, and venture capital. The asset size, which was 18.7 trillion won at the time of its establishment, has increased to 80.8 trillion won, more than quadrupling. Revenue grew from 23 trillion won to 84.3 trillion won, more than tripling.
During the ceremony, key figures from the broader LG family, such as Koo Kwang-mo, chairman of LG, Koo Ja-eun, chairman of LS, and Koo Bon-sang, chairman of LIG, were also present to offer their congratulations.
