The girl group NewJeans, currently in a dispute over their contract with the agency ADOR, has filed an objection against the court's independent activity prohibition ruling. This follows the court's decision to accept ADOR's request for a provisional injunction.
According to the legal community on the 24th, the five members of NewJeans submitted a letter of objection regarding the provisional injunction ruling to the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Agreement 50 Department (Chief Justice Kim Sang-hoon) on the 21st, when the ruling was made.
This seeks to have the court reconsider the case, as they disagree with the court's decision.
The court had previously accepted ADOR's request for a provisional injunction, which sought to prevent NewJeans from activities related to 'preserving the agency's status and signing advertising contracts,' and thus ruled in full in favor of ADOR.
NewJeans members began their independent activities after their contract was terminated last November due to a breach of the contract by ADOR, but the court's acceptance of ADOR's provisional injunction has made independent activities impossible.
Following this outcome, a representative from NewJeans expressed disappointment in an interview with foreign media, stating, 'This is the reality in Korea. It seems like Korea wants to make us revolutionaries.'
NewJeans also performed under the name 'NJZ' at ComplexCon, held at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, starting at 7:30 p.m. (local time) on the 23rd, and sold merchandise using the NJZ trademark.
Although they did not mention the group name NJZ, they unveiled their new song stage and included the phrase 'NJZ' in the background video, and member Minji even had 'NJZ' drawn on her leg.
After the new song stage, the members stated, 'It seems today will be our last stage for a while,' adding, 'We decided to temporarily halt our activities out of respect for the court's decision.' It was reported that this plan for the members' hiatus was not shared with ADOR in advance.
On social media X, scenes were captured on the 24th, the day after the performance, showing NewJeans at Hong Kong airport wearing merchandise hats that featured NJZ and interacting with fans.
