The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 20th that it held a 'Human Resource Policy Direction Review Meeting for Utilizing and Spreading AI' at Tipstown S1 in Gangnam, Seoul.
This meeting was arranged to discuss specific policy directions to supply talented individuals to artificial intelligence (AI) startups and manufacturing AI corporations, continuing from the 3rd National AI Committee meeting held in February.
Attending the meeting were Minister Oh Youngju of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, representatives of AI corporations, AI experts, and about 20 other officials.
Min Sunhong, a deputy researcher at the Korea Industrial Technology Association, who gave the presentation, spoke on the topic 'Current Status and Challenges in AI Talent Development.' He introduced the difficulties faced by companies adopting AI, the current state of personnel, and the overall AI policies being implemented by the government.
Yoo Youngjun, a director at Wrtn Technologies, said, 'We need to strengthen visa policies and settlement support to attract excellent AI talents from abroad,' adding, 'There is also a need to expand research and development support for AI startups.'
Seo Jiho, Chief Operating Officer of Cleon, emphasized, 'We need to activate talent exchange between large corporations and startups through AI talent circulation programs and joint research and development projects, as well as improve the compensation system through expanded stock option support.'
Kim Yoochul, head of strategic division at LG AI Research Institute, noted, 'The most important factor in nurturing AI talent is creating an environment where individuals can continuously develop their capabilities,' and said, 'We must strengthen the skills of existing employees through project-based practical training.'
Minister Oh Youngju stated, 'To nurture AI startups and seize market opportunities, we must first strive to secure excellent talents,' and added, 'The government will spare no support for nurturing AI talent.'
