The Ministry of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Startups announced on the 18th that it has opened the 'Daejeon Startup Park,' an innovation startup cluster.
The Daejeon Startup Park is a space jointly developed by the Ministry of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Startups and Daejeon City, allowing startups to freely communicate and grow with relevant organizations such as investors, large and medium-sized corporations, and universities. It is the second startup park established in the country following the Incheon Startup Park in 2021.
According to the Ministry of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Startups, a total of 10 buildings, including 9 auxiliary buildings around the startup park, are expected to be formed into a street-type startup cluster in Daejeon.
Among the auxiliary buildings, the S-Bridge (3 buildings) is operated by Shinhan Financial Group, and the H-Bridge (3 buildings) is managed by Hana Bank, receiving praise for creating a privately-led startup ecosystem.
The Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center, the operating agency of the Daejeon Startup Park, focuses on nurturing science and technology startups specialized in the region. To secure the competitiveness of deep-tech startups, it supports public technology transfers using new technologies from government-funded research institutions and universities in the Daejeon area.
In addition, the Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center plans to support housing costs for employees of resident corporations to promote the settlement of talented individuals. It will provide rent support for corporations that settle in Daejeon among the graduates of the startup park.
The opening ceremony held on the 18th was attended by Lim Jeong-wook, head of the Startup Venture Innovation Office of the Ministry of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Startups, Lee Jang-woo, mayor of Daejeon Metropolitan City, Park Dae-hee, CEO of the Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center, and about 100 officials from resident corporations, who had the opportunity to tour the startup space.
Lim Jeong-wook, head of the Startup Venture Innovation Office, noted, "The Daejeon Startup Park will be a key place leading the startup ecosystem in Daejeon, a city centered on scientific entrepreneurship," and added, "In the future, the ministry will spare no effort in supporting the establishment of a startup foundation in the region and the growth of startups."
