Doosan Enerbility announced on the 14th that it has signed a contract with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for the construction of the PP12 (Power Plant 12) gas combined cycle power plant, valued at 890 billion won.
In this contract, which was made in consortium with the Chinese state-owned company Shandong Electric Power Construction No. 3 Engineering Company (SEPCO-3), Doosan Enerbility will be responsible for design, major equipment supply, and integrated commissioning. The PP12 gas combined cycle power plant, with a capacity of 1,800 megawatts (MW), will be completed in 2028, located about 150 kilometers northwest of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
This order is said to have been made in the context of the Saudi Electricity Company's efforts to quickly stabilize the power grid in response to the surging electricity demand in Saudi Arabia. Lee Hyun-ho, head of Doosan Enerbility's Plant EPC BG, noted, "Saudi Arabia's electricity demand is increasing to the extent that 6 gigawatts (GW) of power plants will be added annually over the next five years."
Including this contract, Doosan Enerbility has won contracts worth approximately 6.7 trillion won in Saudi Arabia over the past five years. In addition to the recently announced Luma1 and Nayriya1 gas combined cycle power plants, the company has secured contracts for the construction of the Jafurah combined heat and power plant, the Tuwaik forging plant, and seawater desalination plants at Yanbu4 and Shuaiba3.
