The Cadillac Formula 1 team will join the FIA Formula One World Championship (FIA Formula One World Championship, hereinafter F1) 11th grid starting in March 2026.
On the 8th, the FIA and FOM officially announced that the Cadillac Formula 1 team, supported by General Motors (hereinafter 'GM') and TWG Motorsports, has met the entry requirements for the 2026 season. Accordingly, the Cadillac Formula 1 team will join the grid with the existing 10 teams.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA president, noted in the official announcement, "Today marks an important turning point in F1 history," and added, "The joining of Cadillac will create a new horizon for F1 along with the FIA 2026 regulations."
GM and TWG Motorsports have established a unique F1 team based in the United States through close collaboration. The excellent engineering capabilities of GM and the proven success experience in racing combined with the advanced technology of the TWG group, abundant collaborative experience in the motorsports field, and human and material resources laid the foundation for the team.
Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports, stated, "We have built a solid foundation through close collaboration with GM over the past year," adding, "We are accelerating technological development, facility expansion, and talent recruitment ahead of the 2026 season."
Mark Reuss, president of GM, expressed, "We are pleased that the Cadillac Formula 1 team is officially launched," and said, "We are grateful for the support of the FIA and FOM and look forward to showcasing GM's engineering capabilities on the biggest stage, F1."
In the meantime, the Cadillac Formula 1 team is conducting research and development toward becoming a 'full works team' that directly manufactures racing vehicle chassis and power units.
Graeme Lowdon, the team's representative and an individual with extensive motorsport experience and F1 team management experience, stated, "The effort displayed by the entire team during the long evaluation process is something we are very proud of," and added, "This approval is a significant milestone for our entry into the grid and a process toward becoming a full works team."
Additionally, Russ O'Blenes, CEO of GM Performance Power Unit LLC, who was newly appointed in January this year, said, "Power unit development is currently underway, and we plan to conduct the first V6 engine test soon."
Since applying to participate in F1 in January 2023, TWG Motorsports has assembled a team of over 300 experts working on aerodynamics, chassis and component development, software, and vehicle dynamics simulation, with active development ongoing at key sites including Indianapolis, Charlotte, Warren (Michigan), and Silverstone.
