The new head of HMM, the largest container shipping company in the country, has been appointed as Choi Won-hyuk (65), former CEO of LX Pantos.
According to the shipping industry on the 6th, the Management Recommendation Committee of HMM, composed of the Korea Development Bank and the Korea Maritime Promotion Corporation, recommended Choi as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after interviewing multiple candidates at the end of last month.
HMM plans to hold a board meeting on the 7th to process the agenda of appointing Choi as the new representative at the regular shareholders' meeting scheduled for the end of this month.
If appointed as CEO at the shareholders' meeting, Choi will serve a term of two years.
Choi previously served as Vice President of CJ Logistics and led LX Pantos (including its predecessor Pantos) for eight years from 2015 to 2023. From 2019 to 2023, he served as the president of the Korea Integrated Logistics Association.
Earlier, Kim Kyung-bae, who has been leading HMM since March 2022, will step down after completing a total tenure of about three years following a one-year reappointment.
