Korea Zinc announced on the 3rd that it was selected as an excellent corporation in the 'Shared Value Creation Social Contribution' category at the awards ceremony for the '15th Happiness Together Social Contribution Campaign' held at the Korea Press Center, receiving an award from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The Happiness Together Social Contribution Campaign, co-hosted by the Korea Journalists Association and the Korea Enterprises Federation, is a social contribution campaign that recognizes exemplary corporations practicing social responsibility across a total of 10 areas, including social responsibility, education sharing, and environmental love.
Korea Zinc has established a professional organization and infrastructure to expand its social contribution activities in sustainable management, recognizing that it continuously donates about 1% of its annual operating profit to four areas, including volunteer service, cultural arts, environmental sustainability, and talent development.
Korea Zinc has dedicated departments responsible for social contributions at its headquarters in Seoul and at its Onsan smelter in Ulsan, conducting social contribution-related tasks. Furthermore, employees of Korea Zinc and its affiliates are encouraged to participate in volunteer activities more than six times a year.
In particular, Korea Zinc has allocated a social contribution budget of 6 billion to 8 billion won, which is 1% of its annual operating profit, to continue its donation activities. Since 2010, the cumulative donations until last year amount to 83 billion won. It has also established a CSR system that collaborates with key organizations such as the Love Fruit and the Korea Red Cross to discover and support beneficiaries.
Korea Zinc's Sustainable Management Headquarters Chief Kim Ki-jun noted, 'Korea Zinc continues its management philosophy that emphasizes not only contributing to national economic development but also fulfilling corporate social responsibilities to enhance the happiness of community members,' adding, 'We will strive to contribute to the spread of a culture of sharing through various social contribution activities in the future.'
