Hyundai Motor Company and Kia set a record for the highest monthly sales in history by selling about 125,000 vehicles in the United States in February.
Hyundai Motor's U.S. sales subsidiary noted that the local sales volume in February was 62,032 units, a 3% increase compared to February of last year (60,341 units). This is the highest sales volume for February in history, and Hyundai has extended its record for the highest monthly sales in a row to five months compared to the same period last year.
By model, sales of the Santa Fe hybrid (HEV) increased by 194% compared to the same period last year. The Tucson and Ioniq 6 saw increases of 2% and 12%, respectively.
Overall, sales of hybrid models increased by 57%, and electric vehicle (EV) sales grew by 35%, driving the growth.
Kia's U.S. sales subsidiary reported that it sold 63,303 units locally in February, marking a 7.2% increase compared to February of last year. Kia also continued its streak of the highest monthly sales for five consecutive months.
The model that drove Kia's sales in February was the all-new K4 compact, which was launched in August of last year and achieved a record monthly sales figure of 11,669 units.
In addition, major SUV models such as the Carnival MPV (up 44%), Sportage (up 8%), and Telluride (up 13%) set new sales records for February. Sales from the electric vehicle model lineup also increased by 22% compared to last year, recording the highest ever sales volume for February.
