Song Byeong-jun, chairman of the Com2uS board, was appointed as the 12th president of the Korea Venture Business Association on the 28th.
The Korea Venture Business Association held its '30th regular general meeting and inauguration ceremony for the association president' at the L Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, on this day.
New president Song Byeong-jun graduated from the College of Electrical Engineering at Seoul National University, founded Gamevil (now Com2uS Holdings), and currently serves as the chairman of the boards of Com2uS Holdings, Com2uS, and WYSIWYG STUDIOS. He is regarded as a figure who has led the domestic mobile game industry, having served as the first president of the Korea Mobile Game Association. This is especially notable as it is the first time someone from the gaming industry has taken on the presidency of the Korea Venture Business Association, established in 1995.
In his inaugural speech, President Song emphasized this year's four key tasks for the Korea Venture Business Association: ▲ fostering an innovative venture ecosystem ▲ expanding the startup boom and globalization ▲ nurturing the AI industry and leading the transition ▲ broadening the representation of innovative industries.
In particular, President Song emphasized, "Currently, the venture ecosystem in Korea is facing an unprecedented crisis, as the number of technology-based startups has declined for four consecutive years, and the operating profit of all venture companies is expected to record a deficit for the first time since the 1998 survey by the end of 2023."
He further stressed "the need for strong reforms and innovations to overcome the crisis" and strongly appealed that "creating an innovative ecosystem to foster ventures and startups should be prioritized as the first agenda of Korea's economic policy for future growth."
Meanwhile, the Korea Venture Business Association, marking its 30th anniversary this year, plans to review the 30 years of the venture ecosystem in Korea and actively inform the public of the achievements and future visions of ventures and startups through annual activities involving various stakeholders in the ecosystem.
