The Mercedes-Benz social contribution committee will hold a charity culture spreading running event called "Give and Race." It will take place in Busan on April 6, targeted at the first 20,000 participants who registered starting from the 19th.
"Give and Race" is part of a campaign that Mercedes-Benz is conducting to spread charity culture. It started in 2017, marking its 9th year this year, and this will be the 12th event.
The participation fee per person is 50,000 won. Participants can choose from courses of 10 km, 8 km, or 3 km, and upon completion, they will receive a commemorative medal and a mobile certificate to confirm their individual results. All participants will be provided with Under Armour functional T-shirts and event-specific sports bags.
The total donations raised through participation fees from events 1 to 11 by Mercedes-Benz amount to 6.6 billion won. In particular, during last year's event, approximately 1 billion won was collected, the highest amount ever. With the participation fees for the upcoming April event added, the cumulative donations are expected to exceed 7.6 billion won.
The company explained that the donations collected from the event are being used transparently for welfare and educational support for underprivileged children and youths through the Children and Future Foundation.
Of the 1 billion won raised from last year's event, 500 million won was sent to the city of Busan to support the establishment of specialized child protection agencies for the treatment, prevention of recurrence, and case management of abused children in the Busan area. The remaining 500 million won was allocated to a project for the establishment of the Incheon Geonam Child Protection Agency for abused children, promoted by Incheon City.
Having marked its 10th anniversary last year, the Mercedes-Benz social contribution committee declared a new vision for the protection of abused children and stated it would strengthen protective activities for children and youths who are at risk of violence due to cultural and economic disparities.
