The 'Interbattery 2025' will be a showcase of the innovations that the Korean battery industry is preparing for the upcoming supercycle, despite facing three major risks in the industry: the slowdown in battery demand, the low-price offensive from China, and the launch of the second Trump administration.
Park Tae-sung, vice president of the Korea Battery Industry Association (KIBA), held a pre-media day on the morning of the 24th, about a week before the opening of Interbattery 2025, at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, and made this statement. Interbattery is the largest battery industry exhibition in Korea, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and co-organized by the Korea Battery Industry Association (KIBA), COEX, and the Korea Trade Association. It first took place in 2013 and is now in its 13th year.
From March 5 to 7, the 'Interbattery 2025' will take place at COEX, featuring 688 corporations participating, an increase of 109 corporations (18.8%) from last year, creating a total of 2,330 booths. There will be a record number of 172 foreign corporations and institutions participating, which is about 1.5 times the number from last year (115 corporations).
This year, Chinese companies such as BYD and EVE have also made their debut at Interbattery. BYD is the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer and the second-largest battery manufacturer, while EVE ranks 9th in global battery shipments.
During the media day, the 'Interbattery Awards 2025' ceremony, which evaluates among participating corporations for excellence in technology, innovation, product quality, and contribution to industrial advancement, was held. In the battery division, LG Energy Solution received two awards for its battery life management service 'B-Lifecare' and the 46 series cylindrical battery. Samsung SDI also received an award for its '50 ampere (A) class ultra-high output cylindrical battery,' which significantly enhances output compared to existing batteries.
In the materials and components sector, Samsung SDI (LFP+ material and pole technology), LOTTE Energy Materials (high-end copper foil), L&F (high nickel cathode material), and Yujin Technology (precision processing technology) were honored with awards. In the equipment and automation sector, MinTech (battery rapid diagnosis) was recognized, while in the startup sector, Mona (battery rapid diagnosis) and Yubet (ultra-high energy density lithium-metal battery) each received awards.
This year, Interbattery is the first event since the launch of the second Trump administration, and both the U.S. federal and state governments and investment agencies are participating to seek enhanced cooperation. Battery industries from Europe and Japan will also visit Korea to discuss collaborative responses.
Park noted, "I hope that the latest technologies and market information provided by Interbattery 2025, as well as networking with industry experts, will be beneficial for all corporations and attendees seeking new opportunities and leaps forward."
