Companies specializing in domestic power packs (transmissions + engines), including Hyundai Rotem, carried out joint marketing at the international defense exhibition 'IDEX 2025' held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. They showcased the Middle Eastern K2 tank along with the domestic power pack, promoting their technological capabilities that meet local demands.
According to the industry on the 18th, Hyundai Rotem, the system provider for the K2 tank, and domestic transmission developer SNT Dynamics, along with domestic engine developer HD Hyundai Infracore, exhibited the actual Middle Eastern K2 tank and domestic power pack together for the first time at Hyundai Rotem's outdoor booth.
The Middle Eastern K2 tank is characterized by modifications that allow it to operate in extreme hot environments. It is equipped with an active protection system (APS) that enhances the cooling performance of the engine and detects and tracks incoming enemy anti-tank missiles, enabling it to fire countermeasures instantaneously.
The domestic power pack for the K2 tank has been recognized for its superior performance in desert terrain. In 2022, it was installed in the Turkish Altay tank and successfully completed a grueling performance test, traversing 200 kilometers per day in the harsh desert terrain of the Anatolian Plateau. Based on these results, SNT Dynamics and HD Hyundai Infracore each signed export contracts with the Turkish government for transmissions and engines for the Altay tank in early 2023.
The domestic power pack will also be applied starting from the fourth phase of the domestic K2 production project. It is expected to enable optimized operations by allowing for quicker responses in the parts procurement and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) processes.
In addition, Hyundai Rotem exhibited the fourth-generation multi-purpose unmanned vehicle 'HR-SHERPA', a mine-clearing tank, and a '30-ton wheeled armored vehicle', all painted in desert colors in mock-up form.
A Hyundai Rotem official noted, 'Through this exhibition, we will promote the competitiveness of various products optimized for the Middle Eastern market' and emphasized, 'We will continue to showcase the excellent capabilities and technologies of the K-defense industry and contribute to national security and peace maintenance.'
'In the future, we will participate in joint marketing with system providers at various international defense exhibitions to expand exports to global markets such as Poland, Romania, and the Middle East through the 'Korea One Team' strategy that collaborates with the government and small and medium-sized defense companies,' an official from SNT Dynamics stated.
