Hyundai Motor Company temporarily halts production of the dedicated electric vehicles Ioniq 5 and Kona EV.
According to the industry on the 6th, Hyundai Motor Company has decided to suspend operations on line 12 of its Ulsan plant from the 24th to the 28th. This decision was made to adjust production due to sluggish domestic electric vehicle sales and a decrease in orders.
On this line, Ioniq 5 and Kona EV are produced, and it is reported that it has been operated in a 'Kongpichi' manner with only an empty conveyor belt running without vehicles to assemble. In January, only 75 units of Ioniq 5 were sold domestically.
Hyundai Motor Company has launched aggressive discounts to revive sales of electric vehicles, including Ioniq 5. They are selling electric vehicles at prices reduced by up to 5 million won, and with government and local government subsidies included, the final purchase price can drop by as much as 10 million won compared to the original price.
