Hyundai Rotem announced on the 3rd that it has become the first to obtain the 'Excellent Research Laboratory Certification for Safety Management' organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
This certification system is established to enhance the autonomous safety management capabilities of research laboratories in various fields and to discover and disseminate standard models. Certification is finalized after obtaining scores of 80 or more in three areas: safety environment systems, safety management activity levels, and stakeholder safety awareness, followed by review and approval by the certification review committee.
The places that obtained the Excellent Research Laboratory Certification for Safety Management this time are two: the Hydrogen Mobility Test Laboratory and the Combined Testing Ground under the Rail Solutions Research Institute. The Hydrogen Mobility Test Laboratory is where essential equipment for hydrogen railway vehicles, the fuel cell system, is developed and tested in advance. It is equipped with essential hydrogen supply facilities, battery packs, and safety detection systems.
The Combined Testing Ground is a testing facility that verifies the performance of electrical components manufactured by Hyundai Rotem before they are installed in actual railway vehicles. Testing according to domestic and international standard specifications is possible, and various types of electrical components can be tested, including light rail, mid and large-sized electric trains, high-speed trains, and locomotives.
Hyundai Rotem noted, "In the future, we will generously support researchers so they can conduct their work in a safe environment, and we plan to expand the application of safety management cases in major research facilities to increase the number of laboratories obtaining safety management certification."
