HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on the 12th that it has begun constructing four vessels in Peru.
On the 10th (local time), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries held a groundbreaking ceremony for three types of vessels (patrol ships, offshore patrol vessels, landing vessels) to be exported to Peru at the national SIMA shipyard in Peru. The construction started with the steel cutting and keel laying.
These vessels will be constructed utilizing the facilities at the SIMA shipyard. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to support advanced design technology and expertise in shipbuilding processes. The vessels will be gradually delivered to the Peruvian Navy starting next year.
Attending the ceremony were Dina Boluarte, President of Peru; Gustavo Adrianzen Olaya, Prime Minister of Peru; Walter Astudillo, Minister of National Defense; Luis José Pizarro Pigari, Chief of Naval Operations; César Ernesto Colunje Pinto, Chief of Naval Staff; along with other senior government officials from Peru and Joo Won-ho, head of special projects at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
President Boluarte noted, "This groundbreaking ceremony is a very important milestone in Peru's shipbuilding history and is expected to promote the modernization of the Peruvian Navy." Joo Won-ho stated, "This groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of the entry of K-ship into Latin America."
As part of the Korea-Peru defense cooperation, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will support 12 technical personnel from the SIMA shipyard to participate in a shipbuilding and marine engineering training program at Ulsan University for two weeks starting from the 13th of this month.
