Hyundai Motor Company reportedly donated $1 million (about 1.47 billion won) to President Donald Trump's inauguration through its U.S. subsidiary. It is also known that a meeting between President Trump and Chairman Chung Euisun is being pursued.
According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Hyundai Motor Company has been in contact with Trump officials since last year's U.S. presidential election and made a donation to the inauguration through its U.S. subsidiary. This is the first time Hyundai Motor Company has donated to a U.S. presidential inauguration, aligning itself with the global automotive industry's donation efforts including General Motors (GM), Ford, and Toyota.

Even if they have production plants in the U.S., automotive companies that use a lot of foreign-made components are trying to establish friendly relations with Trump. President Trump has proposed imposing a maximum 20% high tariff on imports from all countries after taking office.
The WSJ quoted sources indicating that Hyundai Motor Company is seeking a meeting with President Trump at his home in Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach, Florida, before the inauguration, and at the White House afterward. If the meeting is successful, discussions are reportedly being held to ensure attendance by Chairman Chung Euisun and President Jose Munoz, among others.
Hyundai Motor Company confirmed to the WSJ that it donated $1 million to the inauguration, stating, "Hyundai Motor Company welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with the new administration on policies that support U.S. manufacturing, protect supply chains, and promote innovation."
Hyundai Motor Company is set to officially launch the electric vehicle production plant, 'Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America' (HMGMA), being established in Savannah, Georgia, this year. Local Georgia media reported in October of last year that automotive production had already begun at HMGMA.
