Cho Won-tae, chairman of Hanjin Group, promised on the 2nd that the launch of a consolidated airline between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines this year would elevate the status of the South Korean aviation industry globally.

On this day, Chairman Cho noted in his New Year’s message posted on the company intranet that "there was a significant change as Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, and group companies became united under the roof of Hanjin Group last year" and added, "As the representative airline, we have a mission to elevate the status of the South Korean aviation industry and meet the heightened expectations of our customers."

Chairman Cho expressed that "the integration is a different stage and challenge from the process we have followed so far." He stated, "The moment we become complacent, the global gap can widen in an instant" and emphasized, "We must fundamentally transform our organization, systems, and work practices while firmly maintaining the values that must be upheld."

Chairman Cho began his New Year’s message by expressing condolences for the Jeju Air disaster and conveyed, "As a member of the aviation industry, I have deeply felt the heavy responsibility that the word 'safety' carries."

He emphasized that "the foundation of all works is absolute safety and customer-centered service" and pointed out, "Safety issues are not noticeable until they occur, making it easy for safety to be overlooked during times of change. All sectors must cooperate organically to maintain absolute safety in operations."

Regarding customer service, he urged, "The standards for the consolidated airline's service must be different from before" and noted, "Special customer experiences must be built up to create a strong bond between us and our customers."

Chairman Cho stressed the need for Korean Air and Asiana Airlines to establish a foundation of understanding and respect for each other. He stated, "The members of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines should not dispute what is right or wrong but should passionately consider how to create something better and become the protagonists in writing a new story together."

He also added that this year they will introduce a new corporate identity (CI). He expressed hope that "since this year is when we begin to actively draw the blueprint for integration, the new CI will serve as a focal point and symbol of the convergence of both companies."
