The delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) met with Acting President Han Duck-soo and requested efforts to maintain a stable business environment. Acting President Han urged American businesspeople to proceed with planned investments and corporate activities as usual.
AMCHAM noted that on the afternoon of the 26th, it held a special luncheon meeting with Acting President Han Duck-soo at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. This closed-door meeting was arranged to facilitate communication between the South Korean government and foreign investor corporations amid rising domestic political uncertainty, and to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation.
The AMCHAM delegation that attended the meeting was composed of representatives from 16 American corporations in various sectors, including advanced technology, finance, aerospace, energy, and biopharmaceuticals.
James Kim, chairman of AMCHAM, said, "We are actively communicating with the global community and foreign media to dispel concerns about the current political situation," and added, "I firmly believe that the Korea-U.S. alliance remains the cornerstone of economic security." He emphasized, "Considering the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump's second administration in the United States next month and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in South Korea, it is essential to maintain a predictable and stable regulatory environment."
Acting President Han said, "While there may be concerns among American corporations regarding recent situations, I ask that you proceed with planned investments and corporate activities based on confidence in the strong resilience of the South Korean economy." He added, "South Korea and the United States have contributed to global security and economic prosperity based on the Korea-U.S. alliance for over 70 years, and we will continue to expand cooperation in various fields, including defense, economy, advanced technology, and culture, to solidify our alliance further."
He reiterated, "The government will always communicate to resolve the difficulties faced by businesspeople and will be the best supporter for foreign investment corporations to operate their businesses."
