Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 26th that it has signed a construction contract for three ultra-large ethane carriers worth 742.2 billion won with shipowners in the Asia region. The vessels are scheduled to be delivered to the shipowner by December 2027.
Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative order amount this year has reached approximately $7.3 billion (a total of 36 vessels), achieving 75% of its annual target of $9.7 billion. Among these, environmentally friendly fuel vessels, including LNG, ammonia, and ethanol, account for 86% (31 vessels) of the total contracted vessels.
A representative from Samsung Heavy Industries noted, "There is a steady increase in orders for environmentally friendly fuel vessels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," adding, "As we have strengths in developing environmentally friendly technologies, we will actively respond to changes in the market environment."
