Four vehicle models from domestic and international brands, including Hyundai Motor and Kia, received an evaluation as the safest cars from the government.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reported on the 25th that Hyundai Motor's Santa Fe Hybrid, Kia's EV3, Mercedes-Benz's E200, and Volvo's S60 obtained the highest rating of level 1 in the '2024 Korea New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP)' conducted with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Automobile Safety Research Institute.
The automobile safety assessment is conducted each year on new cars, and this year, a total of nine models, including three types of electric, hybrid, and internal combustion engine vehicles, were evaluated. The evaluation is conducted with stricter measures than legal safety standards to encourage manufacturers to voluntarily invest in safety.
The selected four vehicles received high scores in all three safety evaluation categories: collision, external pedestrians, and accident prevention, thus achieving level 1. The Toyota Prius received a level 2 rating, while the Mercedes-Benz GLB250 and Hyundai Casper Electric were rated level 3. The Tesla Model Y and Jeep Wrangler received level 4 and level 5 ratings, respectively.
