POSCO announced on the 24th that it ranked first in the global steel company rankings selected by the steel analysis firm WSD (World Steel Dynamics) again this year, making it 'the most competitive steel company in the world.' This marks the 15th consecutive year that POSCO has achieved this ranking.
Since 2002, WSD has evaluated 35 steel companies worldwide based on 23 criteria, including technological innovation, production scale, cost reduction, processing costs, financial soundness, customer access, and raw material procurement. This year, POSCO received top scores in five categories: technological innovation, processing costs, skilled labor, mergers and joint ventures, and upstream non-steel industries, earning an overall score of 8.62 out of 10.
U.S. company Nucor followed POSCO. Behind them were Nippon Steel from Japan and ArcelorMittal, along with China's Baowu Steel. ArcelorMittal is a multinational company formed in 2006 from the merger of the Indian steel company Mittal Steel and Luxembourg's Arcelor.
Meanwhile, POSCO was designated a Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association for three consecutive years as of April. Additionally, at the Steelie Awards held in October, it received the highest honors in three categories: technological innovation, communication, and education and training.
