OCI announced on the 23rd that it will expand its eco-friendly materials business by utilizing recycled pyrolysis oil from waste plastic and waste vinyl.

Recycled pyrolysis oil is crude oil produced through the chemical recycling of waste plastic and waste vinyl by heating them at high temperatures. By reusing waste plastic as a raw material instead of incinerating it, carbon emissions can be reduced.

OCI is producing eco-friendly carbon black, a raw material for tires, using recycled pyrolysis oil. To respond to the increasing demand for carbon black, the company also acquired a recycled pyrolysis oil firm located in North Jeolla.

OCI is considering utilizing recycled pyrolysis oil for the materials and supplies of other products currently in production, in addition to carbon black. The company plans to promote the expansion of its eco-friendly materials business in the medium to long term, including entering overseas markets.

Kim Yu-shin, president of OCI, said, “OCI will expand its use of eco-friendly raw materials to contribute to resource circulation and reduce carbon emissions,” and noted, “We will accelerate research on product development based on eco-friendly raw materials and expand high value-added materials business.”
