The Korea Shipping Association announced on the 23rd that it has appointed Park Jeong-seok, the chairman of Korea Marine Transport, as the new president during a meeting of the executive board held on the 20th.
Chairman Park graduated from the College of Engineering at Seoul National University and gained experience at the Ssangyong Cement and Ssangyong Securities London office. He joined KC Transportation in 1992, officially starting his career in the shipping industry, and became the CEO of Korea Marine Transport in 2007.
In 2016, Chairman Park served as the third president of the Korea Mutual Shipping Association, where he led the additional contributions of funds from shipping companies, significantly contributing to the financial stability of the association. Since 2019, he has been active as a chairman of the shipping association's maritime committee, facilitating labor-management agreements for the innovation of Korean seafarers' jobs and the maintenance of national economic security for the first time in 15 years.
For his contributions to the development of the shipping industry, Chairman Park received the Bronze Tower Industrial Medal at the 52nd Trade Day ceremony in 2015. The shipping association plans to officially elect Chairman Park during its general meeting scheduled for January 16 at the 10th floor of the shipping building next year.
