Lee Sang-hyun, the third generation of the LS Group and representative of Taein, has announced his candidacy for the 29th president of the Korea Cycling Federation. If elected, he will become the successor to Koo Ja-yeol, the former chairman of LS Group, who led the federation for 14 years.
Since 2021, Lee has served as the president of the Korea Hockey Association, working to promote the sport of hockey. He has gained attention as the third-generation leader of sports organizations, following his maternal grandfather, the late Koo Tae-hoe, honorary chairman of LS Cable (former president of the Korea Weightlifting Federation), and his father, Lee In-jung, president of the Asian Mountain Federation (former president of the Korea Alpine Federation).
Lee has served as a commissioner of the Korea Sports Council's Inter-Korean Sports Exchange Committee, a director of the Korea Sports Council, and chairperson of the committee for selecting host cities for the Olympics. He also acted as the deputy leader of the South Korean delegation for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and the 2024 Paris Olympics. Additionally, he is the chairperson of the National Chorus under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and a director of the National Theater Promotion Foundation.
Lee has paid particular attention to the field of sports ethics. During his tenure as president, he initiated the "Clean Hockey Campaign," which led the Korea Hockey Association to win the Korean Sports Council's Award for Excellence in Sports Human Rights Management. Furthermore, Lee received the Korea Sports Council's Sports Value Award.
