The electric vehicle rapid charging network Water announced on the 20th that it has officially opened the electric vehicle charging station 'Water Burger King Jeju-Aewol DT' in Jeju City and has started commercial operation of six 200-kilowatt (㎾) rapid chargers.
Water directly purchased 2,269 square meters of land in the vicinity of Sin-eom-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju City, and signed a 10-year lease agreement with Burger King franchise operator BKR.
Water Burger King Jeju-Aewol DT is easily accessible from the main road of Jeju Island, Ilju West Road, and is expected to meet the electric vehicle charging and rest needs of tourists traveling from Jeju Airport to the Aewol, Seogwipo, and Hallasan areas.
Jeju Island is the region in the country where the adoption of electric vehicles is progressing at the fastest pace. As of the end of November, the number of registered electric vehicles in Jeju is 39,188, accounting for 9.49% of all vehicles. Jeju aims to be the first local government in the country to achieve a 10% share of electric vehicles among all vehicles.
Water plans to open new electric vehicle charging stations in nine locations across Jeju on the 23rd, launching commercial operation of 22 rapid chargers and two slow chargers.
Yoo Dae-won, CEO of Water, noted, 'Water expects to secure a stable source of revenue through rental income in addition to sales generated from its core business by entering the combined type F&B store of electric vehicle charging stations.' He added, 'We plan to make various efforts to fill the 20 minutes that electric vehicle drivers spend charging with new experiences.'
