HMM announced on the 19th that it has been selected as a 'family-friendly certified corporation' by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. The family-friendly certification is a system in which the government certifies corporations and institutions that operate family-friendly policies, such as support for childbirth and child-rearing, and flexible working hours, enabling employees to balance work and family.
On the 18th, HMM received a certificate after being selected as a family-friendly certified corporation at the '2024 Family-Friendly Certification and Government Awards Ceremony' held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul. The ceremony was attended by Vice Minister Shin Young-sook from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, along with other related officials.
To obtain certification, organizations must undergo a process that includes document evaluation, on-site inspections for data verification, employee satisfaction surveys, and examinations by the family-friendly certification committee. HMM was highly praised for its various programs that help employees balance family and work.
HMM operates a flexible working hours system, allowing employees to choose their commuting times, as well as a half-day leave system in two-hour increments. Pregnant employees and those with children can also opt for reduced working hours and may, if necessary, work from home.
In addition to the statutory parental leave, employees can take up to one year of parental leave and are eligible for childcare services through professional companies contracted by the corporation. Furthermore, HMM strives to create a work culture that allows employees to focus on their jobs by providing support for maritime practical training, psychological counseling for family members, and hiring substitute workers for those on leave.
An official from HMM noted, 'When employees can focus on their families and work without worry, their job performance can also improve.' He added, 'We will continuously improve our corporate culture to enable both individuals and the company to grow together.'
