Hyundai Motor Group noted on the 19th that Kia's 2025 K4 model has been selected as a Top Safety Pick (TSP) in the crash evaluation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

With the K4 receiving the TSP rating on the 17th (local time), the total number of vehicles that have achieved the highest Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) or TSP rating in Hyundai Motor Group has increased to 22. This includes 9 from Hyundai Motor, 8 from Genesis, and 5 from Kia, making it the highest number among global automakers. The Toyota Group has 18, and Honda has 11.

The IIHS is a non-profit organization established in 1959, which comprehensively evaluates the crash safety and crash prevention performance of vehicles released in the U.S. market and publishes the results annually. Starting this year, stricter standards have been applied to the evaluation of rear-seat passenger protection and pedestrian collision avoidance systems.

To receive the TSP+, a vehicle must include a rear-seat dummy in the front crash evaluation to assess the likelihood of injury to passengers and must achieve a rating of 'acceptable' or higher. Previously, vehicles could receive the TSP rating by achieving 'acceptable' or higher in side crash evaluations, but this year, both TSP and TSP+ require a rating of 'good.'

To achieve the TSP+ rating, a vehicle must score the highest rating of 'good' in three crash safety categories, including front small overlap, front crash, and side crash. Additionally, for the front crash evaluation, a rating of 'good' is required in existing criteria, excluding the newly established rear-seat evaluation.

A Hyundai Motor Group official stated, 'We will prioritize the safety of our customers and strive to protect the safety of both vehicle occupants and pedestrians.'
